SAP Identity Management Overview

SAP IDM stands for SAP Identity Management (SAP IDM). It allows you to centrally handle user accounts and their permissions. An IDM system’s intentions are a more reliable application setting, lower costs, a higher efficiency, and productivity. SAP IDM delivers the IT manager the tools to be able to completely control the access to risky business learning.
SAP IDM is low operational cost and high efficiency device. With a self-service functionality of secret key, it reduces separation of duties and manages access to applications. Making a self-reliance it empowers to follow each and every task related to access and you never again need to depend on advantage for resetting passwords.
Managing compliance according to laws and act is one of the points of interest wherein it becomes easy to follow who had access to which applications when. Exchanging with the life cycle of a client in a complex domain is another advantage of identity management avoiding the security risk; Limit destruction of separation of duties and dealing with the procedure centrally.
SAP IDM works user account ID's and permits the information access with authorizations for both SAP and non-SAP systems.  It delivers difficult user security solutions that work with developing agreements. This tool cooperates the business procedures to runs their activities easily and increases productivity.  It overcomes the risk of user access across a complex enterprise.
Integrate SAP Identity Management to SAP Business Suite

SAP Identity Management is integrated with SAP Business Suite and is able to manage all applications and approve all use cases that include employee identities: onboarding, change of role, assignment of responsibilities for additional applications, termination of employment, and more. SAP IDM enables a centralized user management experience within the independent landscape. It provides and controls access to Authentication and single sign-on.
SAP Identity Management is also integrated with SAP Portal and SAP Composition Environment via the Java-based User Management Engine. This means that information regarding identities in SAP Portal, SAP Composition Environment, and all back-end systems can be put up to date without hand-operated work. This helps continuous execution of methods while greatly reducing administration cost and effort.
For the SAP customers who have been using Central User Administration (CUA) to manage users and functions in the extended landscape of ABAP systems, it's now time to decide what a general strategy can offer you. While CUA does significantly overcome the complexity of managing such landscapes compared to separate user administration in each system, it also has several limitations:
CUA only supports ABAP systems. This means that neither Java-based nor third-party applications can be managed consistently.
Role management is limited to assigning users to roles and creating composite roles within one ABAP system. CUA has no support for managing business roles across multiple ABAP systems or Java-based and third-party applications.
CUA has no support for some user-friendly features such as self-service requests (that allow a user to reset a password, for example), requests for new authorizations, or support for delegation and approvals.
For these reasons, SAP is suggesting that clients transfer from CUA to SAP Identity Management - a comparatively painless process due to the support for CUA within SAP Identity Management.
Running from CUA, you obtain flexible devices for self-service, selected administration, and approval workflows. And because of SAP Identity Management's capability to control access preferences across different systems, SAP clients will find they can better handle user access scenarios.
SAP IDM also supports complex environments like LDAP directories and databases. This exciting change from CUA enables SAP clients to take a holistic procedure for Identity Management in SAP and secure that access benefits are consistently maintained across their SOA landscape and into back-end applications
